Buffalo Bull (Large) on Blackwood base

In African culture, this powerful beast has always been given the greatest respect for its cunning and courage. The Cape Buffalo is ranked among Africa's ‘Big Five’ and for good reason.

The Definitive Luxury Brand From Africa

In African culture, this powerful beast has always been given the greatest respect for its cunning and courage. A buffalo herd needs abundant grazing, permanent water and cover, and because of this, it has lost territory to cattle ranches all over Africa. Herds of thousands are rare today, and can now only be found in the largest and wildest of game reserves. Gregarious and wary, a buffalo herd is invariably trailed by a pride of lions. The 600-700 kg bulls stand up to 1,5 metres at their powerful shoulders, and have massive curved horns which are formidable weapons. The cows have slimmer horns. The herd inhabits a well-defined territory, which will include a river or a permanent dam. They love to wallow and then rest in thick cover during the day, grazing mostly during the night out in the open savannah. When approached, the herd will bunch together and stare at an intruder, the young bulls coming to the fore, and then will bolt away, grunting. Patrick once heard a lone bull on the shore of Lake Kariba, stand and sing a full throated, mournful song for hours under the full moon. To whom or what he was calling remains a mystery.
