The Black rhinoceros is a browser, with a pointed top lip and a very bad temper.
This is the bad-tempered one of the two species of rhino in Africa. Driven almost to extinction in most of the southern sub-continent, the Black (or Hook-lipped) rhinoceros carries its head high and is a browser with a very clearly defined home range.
They are solitary in habit, and easy to hunt (with a rifle) since they patrol their home range in a regular pattern. Babies are born at any time of the year, and will always walk alongside or behind their mother.
Arab traders use a dead rhino’s horn to make dagger handles; a vanity symbol of virility and wealth.
