This tableau depicts a hunt I once watched in Tanzania, where a Thompson’s gazelle in full flight is hotly pursued by two young male cheetahs, while the alpha male, a magnificent creature, strides along behind the spectacle, waiting for his due.
Sculpting a cat, especially a cat in motion, is one of the most difficult tasks an artist can face. A cat’s shape is easily distorted while working on a carving - every cut and stroke must be extremely accurate. This is precisely why it has taken me so long to produce my first cheetahs.
