The lively grey vervet monkey is found throughout the subcontinent. A charming and sociable animal, it has an appealing,velvety-black face and expressive white brows.
The lithe, graceful black-faced vervet monkey is a common resident in the savanna and riverine woodlands of southern Africa. Ranging inside a wide territory, a troop will rarely number more than 20. Mostly vegetarian but adding succulent insects and nestlings at any opportunity, the troop is led by a dominant male and there is a strict hierarchy. babies are born at any time during the year.
Vervets are strictly diurnal and seek the treetops at night. Incurable crop-raiders, vervet monkeys are often persecuted and therefore do best in wildlife reserves.
Their main enemies in the wild however are leopard and the large eagles.
