Aardvark Placecard holder

One is very lucky to see an aardvark; they hide during most of the day in their burrows. These strange looking creatures are active during the night, ranging far and wide, listening and smelling for their prey with their sensitive snouts and long cylindrical ears. They break into termite colonies and lick up the fat white ants and larvae with a long sticky tongue. They need to feed every night to maintain their bulk. Fortunately, ants inhabit the woodland in their millions. An adult male weighs up to 70 kilograms and stands 60cm at the top of his curved spine. Usually solitary, the female aardvarks are sometimes accompanied by a youngster. An aardvark can dig extremely fast with its powerful shoulders and spade-like front claws. The burrows they abandon are readily tenanted by other animals such as hyena, porcupines, pythons, warthogs, jackals and wild cats. The aardvark is the subject of much superstition among African rural people and, among other things, it is considered to be a witch’s familiar.
