Cheetah Placecard Holder

The elegant spotted cheetah with its long legs, lean profile and ‘tear-stained’ face is unmistakable as it surveys its domain from atop a vantage point such as a high termite mound. The female cheetah defends and holds her hunting territory; the males just visit, indulging in lengthy courtships before moving on. The mother brings up her cubs alone with only her speed and strength between her and her family’s starvation. Their stalk-and-chase technique of hunting includes anything up to the size of a medium antelope, and includes terrestrial birds such as bustards and young ostrich. Their spectacular acceleration to 70 km per hour cannot be sustained for very long. Cheetahs face constant competition from other carnivores that steal their kills without hesitation. There has never been a recorded incident of a cheetah attacking a human in the wild. They make a strange, birdlike whistling noise, and can purr loudly like any happy cat.
