The Year of the Ox

To celebrate the start of a new year, we present our limited edition Ox Cufflinks and share the story of how this wonderful character managed to secure his place on the Chinese Zodiac.

Long, long ago, the Jade Emperor invited all animals to compete in a race with the purpose of selecting 12 animals to be his personal guards. The emperor sent an immortal messenger into the land of men with the message that those 12 who finished through the heavenly gates first, would be included in the Zodiac.

On the day of the race, the strong and dependable Ox easily led the contest and was set to be the clear winner, but unbeknownst to the handsome Ox, he was giving the clever Rat a lift behind his ear as they crossed the swollen river to the finish line.

As the Ox was about to cross the finishing line, the Rat suddenly jumped down from his head and entered the gates ahead of him.

The good fortune that the reliable and powerful Ox brings to those born of this year certainly benefitted the wily Rat that day, as the honourable Ox took his place as the second of the Zodiac animals. 

We respect the hardworking and diligent characteristics of the determined Ox, and our handcrafted sterling silver Ox Cufflinks are a detailed representation of this valued animal. We have taken our inspiration from the Iconic Nguni Ox from Africa.

Each piece is lovingly handmade in our studios in Zimbabwe and in Mauritius. We promise it will be worth the wait! The pieces are then packaged with great care and shipped to our London flagship emporium.

At Patrick Mavros, everything is charmingly human. Here nothing is automated.

If you shop at our online store, your order lands on Alexander Mavros’ desk in London and is given to Adam, the emporium manager – and his team – to complete.

They personally select your piece, polish it by hand, wrap it in our signature wrapping paper adorned with silver foil elephants, crown it with a colourful silk bow, hand write the optional gift message and prepare it for shipping.

All with care and sincere thanks for your support. Each owner of a Patrick Mavros piece is part of our wider family so please keep in touch as we love to hear what adventures it gets up to over the years.


We hope that you are delighted with every order you receive from us, but if you need to return items to us for a refund or exchange you have 14 days to do so.

Please notify us of your intention to return your order to us by emailing weborders@patrickmavros.com

All items should be returned new, unused and in original Patrick Mavros packaging.

All successfully returned items will be credited to the card used when placing the order, less any shipping costs, international taxes or import duties incurred. For payments made by PayPal, refunds will be credited to your PayPal account and will be visible immediately. Reimbursement time to the credit card associated with your PayPal account depends on the company that issued the card.

Parcels are returned at your own cost, and it is advised that you obtain a free certificate of postage from the Post Office or any courier company of your choice, as we can only be responsible for your parcel once it has been received into our store. We can also arrange for our courier company to collect the parcel. You will need to be at the provided address to hand over the parcel, and there is a charge for this service.

As the responsibility for international customs duties and local VAT/GST (outside of the EU) lie with the customer, Patrick Mavros are unable to refund any charges incurred upon delivery of the order. However, you may be able to recover these by contacting your local customs bureau directly. 

Please note, items should not be returned to us without prior notice.

Shipping costs will be refunded for items that are incidentally delivered in a damaged or in a faulty condition and for orders cancelled before dispatch under the Distance Selling Regulations (DSRs).
